CLEVELAND — There's a new bar opening in Cleveland's Larchmere neighborhood, but it's not your typical bar experience. There's no chaos, no mess and the best part? You won't be hungover the next day.
“Unbar is the new normal so it looks like a coffee shop, but our goal is to give the community some alternatives to having fun without alcohol," said owner Melissa Hirsch.
By day, UnBar offers everything on your traditional coffee menu plus a variety of locally sourced specialty drinks including kombucha, lemonade and smoothies.
But by night, the real fun begins! You can enjoy non-alcoholic beer and rum, or try a mock-tail handcrafted by their in-house mixologist.
At UnBar you can "Think better, feel better and be better," which is the cafe's tagline.
Over the years, there's been a decline in the consumption of alcohol amid an increase in awareness of its negative effects on the body.
However, there are few places that are trendy and cool that cater to a sober community. UnBar is hoping to change that circumstance.
"The concept is really steeped in a new normal of entertainment, and healthy socialization, having a lot of fun with no alcohol," Hirsch said.
UnBar isn't just a cafe. It also doubles an event space, available for rent to the public.
"We have karaoke, poetry, line dancing... We’re doing all the same stuff that you do at traditional night club—during the day," Hirsch explained.
The decor inside radiates positivity, and according to Hirsch, it was done intentionally.
"I literally looked at everything and thought, how would this make someone feel?" she explained. "If they’re only here five minutes to get a cup of coffee or to buy something out of the cooler, I want to make an impact to the community."
UnBar Cafe is hosting its grand opening Monday, Jan. 20 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The event will include free coffee, half-priced drinks and opportunities to win free Cleveland Cavaliers merchandise and tickets.
UnBar's unique atmosphere will have you addicted, but in a good way! For more information, visit their Facebook page.
