Authorities arrest suspect in Vermilion crash that caused house explosion

He was taken into custody not far from the crash scene.

VERMILION, Ohio — The Erie County Sheriff's Office has arrested a suspect believed to have been the driver in a crash that caused a home explosion on Darrow Road Thursday morning.

Sources tell WKYC's Chris Tye Kenneth E. Karnow, 56, was taken into custody inside a home not far from the scene of the explosion. He allegedly fled the area on foot after he drove off the road and struck a gas meter, which caused the explosion.

The homeowners managed to escape safely, but spent the morning searching for their two dogs, who were both later found.
