Former Rootstown, Hudson school IT manager gets 11 years in prison for child pornography

The images were found on numerous computer files and two flash drives.

A former IT manager who served in both the Rootstown and Hudson school districts has been sentenced to 11 years in federal prison for possessing child pornography.

Thirty-seven-year-old Andrew Shonk, of Massillon, previously pleaded guilty to receiving and possessing visual depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct. Shonk admitted to obtaining the images during a five-year period that began in 2013.

Authorities say the images Shonk received and possessed "contained visual depictions of real minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct" and were found on numerous computer files and two flash drives. Rootstown later confirmed some of the images were of students within the district, where Shonk worked from 2006-12.

Shonk resigned from his job in Hudson after the allegations came to light last year. None of the sexually explicit photos involved Hudson students.
