A former teacher at Twinsburg High School has pleaded guilty to charges of having sex with a 17-year-old student in a classroom pantry.
Laura Bucy, 33, admitted to the felony charge of sexual battery in Summit County Common Pleas Court. She is scheduled to be sentenced on Aug. 29 at 3 p.m., and faces up to five years in prison.
Police became aware of the encounter between Bucy and the male student last September after receiving a tip from her ex-husband. She apparently admitted to exchanging sexually explicit images with the boy before eventually having "full sexual intercourse" with him in the pantry next to her office.
Bucy, who taught home economics, was originally placed on leave before the Twinsburg Board of Education moved to fire her in October. However, she instead chose to resign in December before the process could be completed.
