Man pleads guilty in drunk driving crash that killed Chagrin Falls teen

He faces up to 18 years in prison.

An Akron man has pleaded guilty in connection with a drunk driving crash that killed a Chagrin Falls teen in December of 2016.

John R. Bird, 51, pleaded guilty to four charges Tuesday: Aggravated Vehicular Homicide, two counts of Aggravated Vehicular Assault, and OVI.

Sentencing is scheduled for next month. Bird faces a maximum jail sentence of 18 years and could have his license suspended for life. Prosecutors say they will ask for a 12-year jail sentence.

Bird was driving his 2015 Jeep Cherokee on the night of Dec. 23 when he struck a 2014 Audi as it tried to turn left onto Sunnyside Ave. in Akron. The Audi spun and struck a utility pole with three people inside, including 17-year-old Grant Wilson, who died as a result of his injuries.
