University Hospitals introduces virtual waiting room amid COVID-19 pandemic

A virtual waiting room, PatientTrak enables patients to communicate with staff so they can arrive at their appointment on time and avoid in-person waiting rooms.

On Wednesday, UH announced that it will be implementing PatientTrak, a virtual waiting room that enables patients to communicate with staff so they can arrive at their appointment on time and avoid in-person waiting rooms. According to a release, PatientTrak doesn't require the user to download an app. Rather, the patients receive a text with a link that alerts staff they have arrived, which enables real-time status updates and for staff and patients to communicate.

“This technology will prevent patients from waiting in our waiting rooms, helping us to further build the confidence of our patients that we are ‘UH Safe’ and a place where they can receive the best possible care,” Danielle Chickerella, COO, UH Physician Network & Clinical Institutes, said in a release.

According to UH, more than 10,000 patients across the UH system used the PatientTrak took on the first day it was implemented. While it's especially important during the coronavirus pandemic, UH says that it plans to continue with the technology in the future due to its convenience.
