Family of Alianna DeFreeze calls for renaming of Fuller Avenue: video

Alianna was murdered last January.

CLEVELAND -- The family of Alianna DeFreeze, the 14-year-old who was tortured and killed inside an abandoned Fuller Avenue home, is calling for the street to be renamed in her honor.

Members of the DeFreeze family will spend the evening walking door-to-door to obtain signatures to have the street renamed "Alianna's Way."

The family is also requesting that the city remove the vacant home where Alianna was killed.

Alianna was murdered last January after she disappeared from a bus stop. Her killer, Christopher Whitaker, was convicted of murder, rape and abuse of a corpse this week. He now faces the death penalty.

The DeFreeze family has also pushed for legislation that would require schools to notify families immediately when their child fails to show for school. The family says Alianna's school waited until the afternoon to notify them of her absence the day she went missing.
