CLEVELAND — Black Lives Matter Cleveland is planning a demonstration in downtown Cleveland on Saturday to call for justice after the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.
“Every breath we take is precious, especially during this time,” Black Lives Matter Cleveland officials said in a press release. “To see the life choked out of our kindred brother #GeorgeFloyd as horrific and horrendous as it was, it’s a constant reminder that the color of our skin will always be weaponized against us. It’s a constant reminder that black lives don’t matter in America when you are presumed to be a criminal.”
The group is asking for others to come support their call for justice May 30 at the FREE stamp. The demonstration is scheduled to being at 2 p.m.
“We are sick and tired of asking for humanity, we are sick and tired of begging for our freedom," the demonstration's organizers said. "We are sick and tired of seeing black bodies laying in the streets of America. We are sick and tired of video after video of our people being murdered, gunned down, stalked and hunted in the streets. We are sick and tired of being sick and tired.”
As of 10:15 a.m. Friday, the demonstration's event listed on Facebook shows more than 740 people are planning to attend the Saturday demonstration in Cleveland. That number topped 900 by noon.
Ohio saw a protest erupt in Columbus on Thursday, as riots have ensued in the streets of Minneapolis where Floyd died earlier this week.
