Rover on being grand marshal of 0-16 parade: 'Be upset at the losses, not at this dumb parade'

CLEVELAND -- Shane "Rover" French isn't quite sure what his duties as the grand marshal of the 'Perfect Season Parade' entail. But the host of the popular 'Rover's Morning Glory' on WMMS 100.7 knows he supports the cause.

Speaking to WKYC on Friday morning, a day before leading the parade intended to embarrass the Cleveland Browns, Rover said he didn't understand why there was any controversy surrounding the polarizing protest. According to Rover, any embarrassment the parody parade causes Cleveland won't compare to the damage the Browns have already done.

"People say, 'Oh, it makes the city look bad.' No, what looks bad is winning one game in two seasons. That looks bad," Rover said. "This is nothing. I really don't understand what the controversy is all about. People need to lighten up."

As for the national shame the parade could cause Cleveland, Rover isn't concerned. After all, it's not like the Browns' 1-31 record in the past two seasons has exactly been kept a secret.

"It is on ESPN that they have lost every game this season. This is nothing new," Rover said. "The season is already over, that's what made the news. This is just the icing on the cake. Be upset at the losses, not at this dumb parade."

Having taken calls from listeners on the subject throughout the week, Rover has his finger on the pulse of Clevelanders' feelings toward the event. And according to the popular shock jock, those he has spoken to are on board with it -- for a variety of reasons.

"Cleveland will use any opportunity to have a drink and have a good time," he said. "This is the reason this week. Next week, it will be something else. Right now, it's 0-16. That's the reason to come out and have a good time."
