A former teacher at Cornerstone Christian Academy in Willoughby Hills will be in court Tuesday on 56 counts of gross sexual imposition and sexual battery involving students.
The Lake County Sheriff's Office arrested Anthony Polizzi, 41, of North Royalton, on Jan. 5.
Willoughby Hills Police say the charges go back to the years 2007-10 and involve two female students who were 17 and 18 years old when it happened.
According to a news release issued by police, one of Polizzi's former students told police about several incidents of sexual assault and misconduct with him during the 2009-10 school year. Investigation led to the identification of the second victim.
Police believe there are more victims out there.
Polizzi left Cornerstone Christian Academy in 2010. A page with his name as an attorney on a local law firm's website has been taken down.
On Tuesday, Cornerstone Christian Academy issued the following statement:
"Anthony Polizzi left our employ 8 years ago in 2010. Since accusations against him came to light 6 months ago, we have cooperated fully and are committed to continuing to cooperate fully with the Lake County Prosecutor's office.
We are deeply troubled by these allegations and cannot comment further as we do not want to impede the ongoing investigation.
Polizzi appeared in Lake County Common Pleas Court on Tuesday.
