The Elyria Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a crash that left one man dead early Sunday morning.
Fifty-two-year-old Jefferey Joniec, of North Ridgeville, was traveling south on Island Road in a 2014 Chevrolet van when he veered off the left side of the road and struck a ditch.
The crash occurred just before 8 a.m.
When witnesses arrived at the scene, Joniec was found unresponsive and slumped over in his car. Officials believe Joniec may have suffered a medical emergency.
Joniec was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash. Drugs and alcohol are not believed to have been a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
