5 easy ways to beat the heat in the CLE

Temps shot up into the mid-90s on Monday, sending us all searching for relief from the heat. Here are five ways to cool off!

CLEVELAND — Searing temperatures, muggy conditions, and a quench for thirst. That sums up Monday’s scorcher in Northeast Ohio.

Temps shot up into the mid-90s today, sending us all searching for relief from the heat.

Here’s five ways to cool off:

ICE SKATING:

Winterhurst General Manager Patrick Metzger says the rink fills up when summer days get hot.

“We have more people than we’ve had in a long time, coming out in these summer months. We’re open all summer from June 13 until the end of August when the kids go back to school. Attendance has been great,” Metzger said.

TAKE A DIP IN LAKE ERIE:

Water temperatures off Cleveland are still in the mid-60s. So, diving in is a guaranteed way to splash your way to a cool-down!

SWIM IN A CLEVELAND PUBLIC POOL:

With the extreme heat, the City of Cleveland opened many of its public pools and water basins on days when they’re supposed to be closed.

GRAB A COOL, SWEET TREAT:

From ice cream, to popsicles, to your neighborhood lemonade stand. What better way is there to cut the sweat?

RUN THROUGH A SPRINKLER:

You can run around town looking for a pool, a cool spot, or a refuge from the heat, but sometimes the best place to be is in your own backyard.

“It’s a little bit hot, we’ve had to take quite a few breaks inside: popsicles; water; all of that. So, we’re just trying to make do with what we can and wait for the heat to break,” Rocky River resident Laura Hood said of her five and three year old daughters running through the sprinkler.

Stay cool!
