STOW, Ohio -- A man was hospitalized with a leg injury after he was hit by a car while running from police early Monday.
According to a Hudson police report, officers were called to Sullivan Road to assist Stow police officers searching for a naked man who ran from them following a pursuit and crash around 5:18 a.m.
Soon after the Hudson officers arrived to the area, they received word that the man had been struck by a car on state Route 8 southbound near mile marker 11.4.
According to the report, the man had been driving northbound in the southbound lanes of state Route 8, leading to a pursuit started by the Stark County Sheriff's Office. Sheriff's deputies called the pursuit off due to excessive speeds, but the Summit County Sheriff's Office continued the chase when the man switched to the northbound lanes.
The chase was picked up by Ohio State Highway Patrol and Stow police officers set spike strips near the 11.4 mile marker, forcing the driver to stop.
The man bailed from the car and ran eastbound toward Sullivan Road, where he ran southbound until he turned westbound across state Route 8, where he was struck by a car.
The man, who was identified in the report as Jovon Dawson, 23, was taken to Akron City Hospital for his injuries.
