WKYC hosts student panel discussion on school shootings, gun violence

Hear what local students think about the nation's gun violence.

WKYC invited students from area schools to visit our studios Thursday to participate in a panel discussion on gun violence, school shootings and the March for Our Lives.

The discussion was moderated by WKYC anchor Sara Shookman and the following students joined her:

  • Isabella Bryson, junior, Lakewood High School
  • Sarah Pepe, senior, Lakewood High School
  • Quinica Garrett, junior, Saint Martin de Porres High School
  • Jack Brancatelli, senior, St. Edward High School
  • Kody Cross, sophomore, Firestone High School

We also had a studio audience in attendance. Watch the full show in the player below:

Together, we discussed the March for Lives scheduled to take place in Washington D.C. this weekend, as well as last week's national school walkouts.

Students across the country have become vocal activists to combat gun violence after 17 people were shot dead inside Marjory Stoneman Douglas Elementary School in Parkland, Florida in February. Their activism has triggered debate over gun laws, including the proposal to arm teachers.
