YORKTOWN, Va. (WVEC) -- A woman who was shot outside the Tabb Walmart in Yorktown has died, officials confirmed to 13News Now.
Investigators said the shooting call came in around 9:30 a.m. at the store located at 2601 George Washington Memorial Highway.
York-Poquoson Sheriff J.D. Diggs said the victim, 37-year-old Jean Bryant, was abducted from the optometry clinic where she worked following a fight inside the building. She was then taken out to the parking lot, where she was shot multiple times in the abdomen.
Bryant was transported to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 12:30.
Sheriff Diggs said a deputy was pulling into the Walmart right as the shooting took place, and quickly took the suspect into custody.
The suspect, 34-year-old Cindy Bryant, was taken to the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail, where is charged with first degree murder, abduction, and two counts of use of a firearm in commission of a felony. Additional charges may be pending.
No motive was immediately known, but the Sheriff's Office said the two women knew each other.
The Walmart was closed for several hours following the shooting but reopened shortly before 2:30 p.m.
"I felt bad for that girl. She shot her down like a dog. I wouldn't even shoot a dog like that. That was terrible. I've never ever seen nothing like that in my life," said witness Mona Burruss.
The victim, Jean Bryant, worked at an optometry clinic that leased space inside the Walmart, which is where the incident began.
The suspect, Cindy Bryant, was arraigned in court on Friday morning. Her next court appearance is scheduled for March 1.
