CLEVELAND -- Kent State University track-and-field star Reggie Jagers III was named the Male Collegiate Athlete of the Year at the 18th Greater Cleveland Sports Awards at the Renaissance Cleveland Hotel Downtown Wednesday.
A native of Solon, Ohio, Jagers is a five-time All-American, as well as a World University Games Discus Champion and Jr. Pan-American Games Bronze medalist.
Owner of the Golden Flashes’ men’s discus record with a toss of 197 feet, five inches, Jagers was the first men’s discus thrower in Kent State history to reach All-American status.
Because of his successes, Jagers is a two-time Olympic and USA Trials contender and was invited to train at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, California.
The National Championship-winning University of Mount Union football team, Ashland University quarterback Travis Tarnowski (North Royalton High School) and former Ohio State cornerback Denzel Ward (Nordonia High School) were also nominated for the Male Collegiate Athlete of the Year Award.
