Adam Plutko #45 of the Cleveland Indians pitches in the second inning against the Detroit Tigers at Progressive Field on June 24, 2018 in Cleveland, Ohio.

In a move that was widely expected, the Indians recalled pitcher Adam Plutko from Triple-A Columbus Saturday to take injured All-Star Trevor Bauer's place in the starting rotation.

The move appears to be for the foreseeable future, as the club announced yesterday that Bauer is expected to miss four to six weeks with a stress fracture in his right leg. The right-hander, who has 12 wins and 214 strikeouts this season, hopes to return before the playoffs.

The 26-year-old rookie Plutko will begin his sixth stint with Cleveland this year when he starts against the Baltimore Orioles this afternoon. He has impressed at times, going 4-2 with a 4.75 ERA. However, he has also allowed 11 home runs in just 41 2/3 innings.

To make room on the roster for Plutko, the Tribe optioned lefty Tyler Olson back to the minor leagues.
