LeBron James: 'Basketball is the No. 1 thing in my life'

LeBron James discussed basketball's place in his life at shootaround ahead of the Cleveland Cavaliers' Game 5 matchup with the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference Finals.

Between his family, multiple business ventures, a reported $1 billion shoe deal and oh yeah, a quest for an eighth straight NBA Finals, life must seem hectic for LeBron James.

According to the Cleveland Cavaliers superstar, however, that couldn't be further from the truth.

"My life is simplified. Basketball is the No. 1 thing in my life," James said after' shootaround in Boston on Wednesday morning, hours away from their Game 5 matchup with the Celtics. "My family does a great job of understanding that and everything else kind of falls after that."

That approach doesn't just apply to the postseason, but extends to the regular season as well. Obviously, that doesn't mean basketball is the only part of James' universe -- as recently as Monday, he shared a touching postgame moment with his 3-year-old daughter, Zhuri.

But when it comes to the 4-time MVP's priorities, there's little question as to what tops the list.

"When I'm in the season, I dedicate it to the season," James said. "My family understands that. I mean, it's just been like that. I feel like I've committed to this game and it's always been a part of me and the game Gods give back to you when you commit to it."

It'd be tough to argue with James' approach.

Heading toward the end of his 15th NBA season, James has been as spectacular as ever, averaging 33.7 points, 9.0 assists and 8.7 rebounds through Cleveland's first 15 games of the 2018 postseason. On Monday, he turned in a routine 44-point effort in the Cavs' 111-102 victory over the Celtics in Cleveland, to even the best-of-seven series at two games apiece.

Along the way, he's reached various milestones, the latest coming on Monday when he passed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for the most field goals made in postseason history. With two more Cavs victories, he'll break a record of his own with an unprecedented eighth straight NBA Finals, thus keeping basketball his No. 1 priority for a little bit longer.

"It's all I know, throughout this time," James said. "So I don't know no other."
