CLEVELAND -- Ever since his new signature Nike shoe debuted last fall, LeBron James has put together quite the impressive kicks collection.
That trend continued on Tuesday, when the Cleveland Cavaliers superstar debuted the latest installment of #LeBronWatch.
Aptly named, the 'Griffey' Nike LeBron 15 pays tribute to Hall of Fame baseball star Ken Griffey Jr. With a colorway similar to Griffey's first Nike shoe, the Air Griffey Max 1, the shoe also gives James his own custom version of the former Seattle Mariners outfielder's 'Swingman' logo.
Nike.com describes the LeBron 15 'Griffey' with the following:
Originally crafted as a cross-trainer that became as iconic as the player it was made for, the Air Griffey Max 1 represents an electrifying player that transcended sports and inspired all athletes. Dominated by a large toe swoosh and an unconventional ankle strap, the Air Griffey Max 1 set the design bar high with its unforgettable design. Crafted in homage to one of LeBron’s favorite athletes, the LeBron 15 ‘Griffey” pays homage to the Kid, who remains one of the greatest baseball players of all time.
The 'Griffey' is just the latest edition in James' #LeBronWatch collection, in which Nike has paid tribute to some of its most famous shoes. Earlier this year, James wore versions of his 15th signature sneaker paying homage to Deion Sanders, the Nike Air Max 95, the Waffle Trainer and even the company's signature orange box.
If you're looking to purchase a pair of James' latest shoe -- good luck. The 'Griffey' was available in just a limited release on Tuesday night, although more pairs will be made available via a raffle on the Foot Locker app this weekend.
As for James' first time wearing the shoe on-court, one could say it was a home run. The reigning NBA All-Star MVP scored 27 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and dished out 6 assists in the Cavs' 112-106 victory over the Toronto Raptors on Tuesday night.
