Former Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Kyrie Irving made an appearance on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" Thursday night prior to the NBA All-Star Weekend.

Irving, now a Boston Celtic, was selected for his fifth All-Star game appearance. He discussed his approach to the All-Star game and his competitive spirit.

He also discussed former teammate LeBron James.

Irving said he felt like it was a "great choice" when James selected him for his All-Star team. James and Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry were selected as captains for the two All-Star teams, meaning they drafted their own rosters.

Despite the frosty farewell that Irving bid the Cavaliers last year, he said he and James still talk. Cleveland sent Irving to Boston in August following rumors that he had asked to be traded, citing unhappiness while playing alongside James. Irving told ESPN, "They didn't want me there" following the trade's completion.

Irving played it safe when Kimmel asked him if he thinks he'll ever play alongside James again.

"In professional sports, anything can happen so you never know," Irving replied.

Irving also discussed the Uncle Drew movie, based on the character he's played in Pepsi commercials. He'll co-star with Shaquille O'Neal in the movie set to hit theaters this June.

Kimmel didn't let Irving off the hook from past comments that he believes the earth is flat. The remarks have followed Irving, leading to internet memes, jokes and endless follow-up questions from reporters.

"I've always tried to come back, take the statement back," Irving said. "On that podcast, I was just really like, man, what's going on within our world? [It was] just a whole bunch of truth and conspiracy. I was just like, whoa this is too much for me."
