Cleveland Browns CB Denzel Ward discusses his strong start, Thursday matchup vs. New York Jets

Cleveland Browns rookie cornerback Denzel Ward stopped by WKYC on Tuesday and discussed the state of the team heading into its Thursday night matchup vs. the New York Jets.

CLEVELAND -- Earning NFL Defensive Rookie of the Week honors in his debut game, Cleveland Browns rookie cornerback Denzel Ward is off to a strong start.

But with the 0-0-1 Browns still yet to have earned their first victory of the season, the Ohio State product is hardly satisfied.

"I'm really more so just focused on getting wins, honestly," Ward said Tuesday, as he stopped by the WKYC Channel 3 studios. "We haven't got that yet, so we still got a lot of things we've got to work on, so we gotta get a win."

Following a heartbreaking 21-18 loss to the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, the Browns won't have to wait long for their next chance to get in the win column. On Thursday, Cleveland will host the 1-1 New York Jets in a primetime matchup on Thursday Night Football.

With the Jets relying on rookie quarterback Sam Darnold and coming off a loss to the Miami Dolphins, Thursday could represent the Browns' best opportunity to pick up a victory in the first half of the 2018 season. Oddsmakers agree, listing Cleveland as a 3-point favorite for the contest.

Ward, however, isn't worried about the point spread. He just wants his professional victory.

"The main goal is to go out and win," said Ward, who the Browns selected with the No. 4 pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. "We just gotta come in focused and do our assignments and take it from there."

Kickoff at FirstEnergy Stadium on Thursday night is scheduled for 8:20 p.m.
