OLYMPIC RECAP | Red Gerard advances; Lindsey Vonn takes bronze

Another jam-packed night at the Winter Olympics saw one Northeast Ohioan's journey continue and one legend add to her legacy.

Rocky River native Red Gerard will compete in the finals of men's big air snowboarding, qualifying by just one quarter of a point.

Lindsey Vonn also earned the bronze medal in women's downhill, becoming the oldest woman ever to medal in alpine skiing.

It was not a good night, however, for the United States men's hockey team, which was eliminated by the Czech Republic 3-2 in the quarterfinals.

12:50 a.m. - USA eliminated from men's hockey

The United States will not play for a medal in men's hockey, losing to the Czech Republic 3-2 after going 0-for-5 in a shootout.

12:40 a.m. - Shootout

Neither the United States nor the Czech Republic could find the net in overtime. We'll head to a shootout to decide who advanced to the medal round.

12:25 a.m. - USA men's hockey headed to overtime

The United States couldn't take advantage of a power play at the end of regulation, sending them and the Czech Republic into overtime tied at 2.

The next team to score will advance to the medal round.

12:20 a.m. - New figure skating leader

Olympic figure skater from Russia Alina Zagitova has just passed her teammate Evgenia Medvedeva to take the lead in the ladies' short program following a flawless routine of her own.

11:58 p.m. - Russian takes lead in figure skating

Olympic figure skater from Russia and gold medal favorite Evgenia Medvedeva just delivered the best ladies' short program of the night so far, soaring into first place with a score of 81.61.

11:42 p.m. - Americans, Czechs tied after two

The United States and the Czech Republic each traded goals in the second period, leaving the game tied at two with a trip to the medal round on the line.

11:31 p.m. - American figure skaters

After landing a triple axel in her free skate during the team event, the United States' Mirai Nagasu failed to do the same at the start of her women's short program. She recovered, however, and is currently in fourth place.

Right behind Nagasu in fifth is teammate Karen Chen, who is skating in her first Olympics.

10:52 p.m. - Donato scores again, USA tied with Czechs

Twenty-one-year-old Ryan Donato has been the unquestioned start of the United States men's hockey team at these Olympics.

The former Harvard star and current Boston Bruins prospect scored his fifth goal of the games tonight to give Team USA an early 1-0 lead over the Czech Republic in the quarterfinals.

The Czechs later scored to tie things up in the first period. The winner of this game will face either Norway or the Olympic Athletes from Russia in the seminfinals.

10:31 p.m. - Vonn takes bronze in downhill

In what was likely the final downhill event of her Olympic career, legendary American skier Lindsey Vonn won the bronze, becoming the oldest woman ever to medal in alpine skiing. Her friend Sofia Goggia, of Italy, took the gold.

After her run, Vonn was noticeably emotional in an interview with NBC.

9:49 p.m. - Beyonce

No, Beyonce did not make an appearance at the Winter Games, but one of her songs was used for France's Mae Berenice Meite's short program.

9:32 p.m. - Women's bobsled

The American bobsled team of Elena Meyers Taylor and Lauren Gibbs set a new track record with a time of 50.52 seconds in their first run of the women's event. The two are currently in second place heading into the final two runs.

And in a nod to Cool Runnings, Jamaica fielded the first women's bobsled team in its Olympic history, with Jazmine Fenlator-Victorian and Carrie Russell even getting a shout out from legendary sprinter Usain Bolt.

9:22 p.m. - Vonn in second after downhill run

Lindsey Vonn will not earn a gold medal in women's downhill skiing, as she did in 2010. However, the 33-year-old American's time of 1:39.69 still currently puts her in second place behind Italy's Sofia Goggia.

8:27 p.m. - Red Gerard headed to big air finals

He's moving on! Rocky River native Red Gerard qualified for the men's big air snowboarding finals by beating out Norway's Staale Sandbech by just one quarter of a point.

His relatives back in Rocky River were certainly loving the news.

8:19 p.m. - Bradie Tennell

In her first Olympics, U.S. women's figure skating champion Bradie Tennell carded a 64.01 in her short prorgam. The promising 20-year-old is unlikely to medal in the women's individual event, but this certainly won't be her last opportunity.
