Team USA was finally able to pick up a couple of medals, thanks to the heroics of one new star and one past winner.

John-Henry Kruger scored an upset by taking silver in men's 1,000m short track, while Nick Goepper placed second in slopestyle skiing after winning bronze in the event last year.

1 a.m. - Goepper takes silver in slopestyle

Nick Goepper was able to improve on his bronze medal in men's slopestyle skiing, as the American put up an impressive final run score of 93.60 to take the silver medal.

Oystein Braaten of Norway won the gold, while Sochi silver medalist and Goepper teammate Gus Kenworthy finished 12th, having battled numerous injuries.

12:53 a.m. - Austrian Hirscher wins second gold of games

For years, skier Marcel Hirscher of Austria heard everything about how he could not win Olympic gold.

Now, he has his second gold medal of the PyeongChang games, winning the men's giant slalom in dominating fashion by more than one second.

American Ryan Cochran-Siegle finished in a tie for 11th, while his teammate and defending gold medalist Ted Ligety finished tied for 15th in what is likely his last Olympics.

10:55 p.m. - USA speed skating

For the first time in eight years, the United States has an individual medal in speed skating, with John-Henry Kruger winning silver in the men's 1,000m.

10:08 p.m. - Women's skeleton

Great Britain's Lizzy Yarnold won the gold medal in women's skeleton, becoming the first British athlete ever to win back-to-back Olympic golds.

9:17 p.m. - Goepper, Kenworthy throw down in qualifying

It's hard to imagine the first qualifying runs in men's slopestyle skiing could've gone any better for the two top American contenders.

First, Nick Goepper showed why he is the defending bronze medalist by putting up a score of 92.80.

Then, defending silver medalist Gus Kenworthy (battling a broken hand and a hematoma) fought through the pain for an 88.60 of his own.

Both are currently among the top 12 that would advance to the finals, with one qualifying run to go.

8:41 p.m. - Ligety disappoints in first run

American Ted Ligety did not put forth his best run in the beginning of men's giant slalom, as his time of 1:10.71 puts him more than two seconds behind leader Marcel Hirscher of Austria. He'll have another run, but a medal looks unlikely at this point.
