A storm system moving into the mid-Mississippi Valley will trigger severe thunderstorms across the Deep South. The main threats from the storms will be damaging winds, flash flooding and hail, but a few tornadoes are also possible.
Elsewhere, showers will dot portions of the Midwest, while gusty winds accompany a blast of chilly air diving into the northern Plains and Upper Midwest. Dry and tranquil conditions will return to the southern Plains and Texas after the onslaught of severe weather earlier in the week.
A summerlike heat wave will continue to scorch the Southwest, leading to poor air quality and making prolonged, outdoor activities dangerous. SPECIAL WEATHER No new information for this time period.
