Man accused of killing sister in Parma captured in Buffalo; faces aggravated murder charge

It happened in the 2400 block of Torrington Avenue.

PARMA, Ohio -- A Parma man wanted for the early morning murder of his sister has been captured in Buffalo, New York.

Parma police say 54-year-old Mark Shankle was taken into custody by the Buffalo Police Department. Shankle has been charged with one count of aggravated murder. Arrangements will be made with authorities in Buffalo to have Shankle extradited back to Parma next week.

55-year-old Vicky Zabala was found dead by her sister inside a home in the 2400 block of Torrington Avenue shortly before 7 a.m. Friday.

Police responded to the scene after receiving a 911 call from the victim's sister.

Police determined that Zabala's brother, Shankle, was a possible suspect in her death and immediately began searching for him. Shankle was living at the Torrington Avenue residence with his sister at the time. Investigators tracked Shankle down to a location in Buffalo, where he was taken into custody by the Buffalo Police Department.

Authorities are awaiting word on the official cause of Zabala's death from the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office.
