Man arrested months after Akron rape

The victim says the suspect forced her into a vehicle and then drove away before sexually assaulting her on the side of an unknown street back on Sept. 19.

AKRON, Ohio -- A 29-year-old Akron man has been arrested months after allegedly raping a woman.

Wayne Andrews Jr. faces charges of rape and kidnapping connected to the incident, which happened back on Sept. 19.

Authorities say the victim left a business in the Highland Square area of Akron around 2:20 a.m. when she was approached by an unknown man. The man forced her into a vehicle and then drove away before sexually assaulting her on the side of an unknown street.

She was taken to an unknown address in Coventry Township where she lost consciousness. Upon waking up, authorities say the victim fled the residence and contacted police.

She had suffered a minor head injury as well.

Investigators later identified Andrews as the suspect. The Summit County Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday that Andrews was arrested Nov. 30 and booked in the Summit County Jail.

Anybody with additional information about the incident is asked to call the Summit County Sheriff’s Detective Bureau at 330-643-5404.
