Life-size Candy Land exhibit welcomes all ages in Lake County

For generations, families have bonded over the classic board game Candy Land.

Remember Lollipop Woods, Peppermint Stick Forest or the Gum Drop Mountains?

They were all stops along the game board in Candy Land, and now the whole family can become game pieces on a life-sized version of the classic game.

It's all part of the holiday celebration called "Candy Land Has Gone WILD!" at Penitentiary Glen Reservation in Lake County.

The centerpiece is a giant replica of the iconic game, but with a unique "natural twist.” As visitors draw cards to move along the board, they travel through all four seasons. Instead of the traditional sugary candies, the trail features some of the sweet treats found in nature, like maple syrup, honey and berries.

Along with the game, families can enjoy scavenger hunts, crafts, making s'mores and even interacting with live animals.

Vintage holiday cheer and Mr. Jingeling memorabilia from the Halle Department Store era are included in an exhibit sure to inspire reminiscing among the guests old enough to remember the downtown Cleveland holiday tradition.

For the adventurous types, snowshoes are also available to rent for hiking the grounds.

"Candy Land Has Gone WILD!" is free and open to all ages.
