High school football roundup: Hoban prevails in 'Holy War,' Mentor hammers Brunswick

Archbishop Hoban (4-1) 21, St. Vincent-St. Mary (4-1) 7

In a defensive struggle, the Knights won Akron's "Holy War" for the third straight year. Hoban managed to break through with three long touchdowns: a 25-yard tun by Tyris Dickerson, and passes of 32 and 67 yards to Zach Olson and Garrett Houser, respectively.

Wadsworth (5-0) 41, Stow-Munroe Falls (4-1) 28

The Grizzlies proved their unbeaten start was no fluke by thoroughly dominating the Bulldogs from start to finish. Quarterback Joey Baughman ran for three touchdowns and threw for another in the win.

Mentor (4-1) 62, Brunswick (3-2) 0

It was a battle of two top teams in the GCC, but the Cardinals rolled from start to finish. The scoring onslaught included long runs by Logan Shea and Elijah McDougal, along with a 50-yard touchdown pass from Tadas Tatarunas to Derek Kleinheinz.

Garrettsville Garfield (4-1) 29, Windham (4-1) 28

In a battle of two former PTC rivals, Garfield overcame a 14-point fourth quarter deficit to cut it to one on Devyn Penna's touchdown with just 41 seconds left. Rather than kick the extra point and force overtime, Anthony DeNigris scored on the two-point conversion to give the G-Men a stunning victory.

Solon (4-1) 28, Strongsville (2-3) 14

The Comets moved to 2-0 in conference play thanks to three Thomas Wilks touchdowns (including an 85-yard run). The effort marked the 200th career with for Solon head coach Jim McQuaide.
