Mentor (8-1) 61, Euclid (7-2) 59
This game had everything: Despite 5 touchdown passes from quarterback Aubrey Shabazz, the Panthers trailed 58-51 with just two minutes left. Then, Brandon Wright took it in from 58 yards away, and a two-point conversion gave Euclid a 59-58 lead with only 1:31 remaining.
However, that was more than enough time for Tadas Tatarunas, who himself had 4 total TDs. Trying to repeat last week's thrilling victory over Solon, the senior QB led the Cardinals all the way to the Euclid 17 yard line, setting up a 34-yard Connor McIntosh field goal attempt. The junior nailed the kick as time expired, and Mentor won at least a share of the Greater Cleveland Conference championship in an instant classic.
Massillon Perry (8-1) 28, Canton McKinley (8-1) 20
The Bulldogs had already clinched at least a share of the Federal League crown, but their unbeaten season came to an end after blowing a 10-point halftime lead. Jarin Curtis put the Panthers on his pack, rushing for all 4 of their touchdowns and all but assuring his team a playoff berth, while McKinley will prepare for next week's rivalry showdown with Massillon Washington.
Bedford (8-1) 54, Lorain (7-2) 48
In what was a back-and-forth shootout for the Lake Erie League title, Bearcat Kenny Wilkins was the ultimate hero: Not only did the senior rush for 257 yards and 6 touchdowns, but he also stuffed Lorain's Daylin Dower at the goal line to preserve the victory.
Kirtland (9-0) 42, Cuyahoga Heights (7-1) 34
Jake Neibecker ran for 3 touchdowns, and the Hornets appeared to have things in control up 42-27 with just over a minute to play. However, the Redskins scored a touchdown, recovered an onside kick, and then drove all the way to the Kirtland 1-yard line with time for one last play. However, Ryan Polk's last-ditch pass was picked off (one of four on the night), and Kirtland clinched at least a share of the Chagrin Valley Conference's Valley division championship.
St. Vincent-St. Mary (6-3) 13, Massillon Washington (6-3) 10
The Fighting Irish kept their playoff hopes alive as their defense held the Tigers scoreless in the second half. Scott Walter's touchdown grab with just 3:15 left provided the difference. Massillon's defeat means both they and Canton McKinley will head into next week's rivalry game on a losing note.
Archbishop Hoban (8-1) 42, Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin (7-2) 0
In the North Coast League's Blue division, the Knights proves there is no one better, jumping out to a 28-0 halftime lead and holding serve from there. Quarterback Shane Hamm threw for 2 touchdowns and ran for another in the win.
