Cleveland Indians SS Francisco Lindor named AL Player of the Week for second straight week

Cleveland Indians shortstop Francisco Lindor has been named the Co-American League Player of the Week for the second consecutive week.

CLEVELAND -- Cleveland Indians shortstop Francisco Lindor has been named the co-American League Player of the Week, the team announced on Twitter Monday afternoon.

After not winning the honor in any of his first three seasons with the Indians, Lindor has now won the AL Player of the Week Award for the second consecutive week.

During the week, Lindor hit .600 with four doubles, four home runs, five runs batted in and eight runs scored. In 20 at-bats over the last seven days, Lindor had 12 hits, including eight that went for extra bases, and drew two walks.

In a 6-2 win over the Kansas City Royals at Progressive Field last Saturday, Lindor became the first Indians player to have four extra-base hits out of the leadoff spot since the late Tito Francona achieved the feat against the Chicago White Sox on July 3, 1964.

Lindor led off the bottom of the first inning with a double, and then, smacked a home run in his next trip to the plate. Lindor came back with a second double in his third at-bat and capped off the performance with a second home run.

Lindor has at least one hit in every game in May and 14 consecutive outings dating back to a 10-4 loss to the Seattle Mariners at Progressive Field on April 29.

During that 14-game hitting streak, Lindor has at least one extra-base hit in 11 outings.
