The city of Rocky River is showing pride for its native son, Olympic gold medalist Red Gerard.
Outside of Rocky River City Hall, there's a sign congratulating Red for taking the gold in snowboarding at the Winter Games in South Korea.
Inside the Rocky River Rec Center, you can see this team picture from his days on the ice as a youth hockey player.
Ron Wilson, Hockey Director at the Rec Center, remembers Red on the ice. Like a lot of kids that age, it wasn't so much about the rules of hockey, but about having fun.
"Every time you saw him, he was doing some kind of trick, he was riding a skateboard, but when he was even on the ice, he didn't pay a lot of attention because he always wanted to move around and do jumps," Wilson recalls. "So he was always an active young player. He was a crazy, wild kid. Fun to be around."
Wilson said Red was about 3 or 4 when he started in the hockey program.
