Truck crashes into Civil War statue in Lagrange town square

The Sherman statue was erected in 1903 for $3,000, according to the mayor of Lagrange.

LAGRANGE, Ohio — A Civil War statue of General Sherman that has stood for nearly 120 years in the Lagrange town square came crashing down early Tuesday morning after it was struck by a truck around 2:30 a.m.

Authorities tell 3News the situation does not appear to be malicious or criminal. Nobody was hurt in the incident.

The Sherman statue was erected in 1903 for $3,000, according to the mayor of Lagrange. An estimate of the damage was not immediately available.
