BorderLight festival returns to Cleveland's Playhouse Square July 20-24, 2022

BorderLight returns to Cleveland for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic.

CLEVELAND — EDITOR'S NOTE: The story above previously aired on 3News in 2019, regarding the BorderLight festival in Cleveland.

The BorderLight International Theatre and Fringe Festival is returning to Cleveland’s Playhouse Square for the first time since COVID-19.

The five days of entertainment in downtown Cleveland will take place July 20-24, 2022.

“A festival like BorderLight creates reputational impact, affirming Cleveland’s place on the cultural map as a destination for the arts, ” said Dale Heinen, Co-Founder/Co-Director of BorderLight

BorderLight is one of the hundreds of theatre festivals across the world. This year’s festival will feature a curated selection of international touring productions and theatrical performances by local and national self producing artists.

All of the shows will feature these experiences:

  • Dance

  • Circus

  • Immersive experiences

  • Puppetry

  • Spoken world

  • Pop-up performances

  • Comedy

BorderLight provides independent artists with a platform to display their work and engage new audiences.

"Through BorderLight, Cleveland is uniquely positioned to offer best in class theatre and interactive experiences to all people, at the same time supporting our city with great joy, anticipation, and hope," said Heinen

This summer’s festival marks the second BorderLight bi-annual event.

In 2019, the inaugural event brought thousands to downtown Cleveland to see many individuals’ works of talent.
