CLEVELAND — Fresh off of the controversy surrounding his confrontation with Will Smith at the Academy Awards, Chris Rock has added a second Cleveland date to his 'Ego Death World Tour 2022.'
Rock will now perform at Playhouse Square's Connor Palace on Thursday, June 16 and Friday, June 17. Tickets for the June 17 date will go on sale on Friday, April 1 at 10 a.m. Some tickets for the June 16 show are still available. Click here for more information.
"Ego Death" marks the first time that Rock has toured with new material in five years. Rock is not only a notably accomplished comedian with four Emmy Awards, three Grammy Awards, Broadway, directing and Academy Award hosting credits, but also a New York Times Best-Selling Author.
Rock was back at last Sunday's Academy Awards to present the Oscar for Best Documentary Feature. As he turned towards Will Smith, he took aim at Jada Pinkett Smith’s shaved head, saying, “Jada, I love you. ‘G.I. Jane 2,’ can’t wait to see it, all right?” Rock’s reference was made from the 1997 film “G.I. Jane,” starring Demi Moore, who shaved her head to portray a fictional Navy Seal candidate.
Pinkett Smith revealed in 2018 that she was diagnosed with alopecia. She has often discussed the challenges of hair loss on Instagram and other social media platforms.
Smith walked onto the stage from his front-row seat and took a swing at Rock with an open palm, generating a loud smack. Smith walked back to his seat and shouted for Rock to leave Pinkett Smith alone. Rock replied that he was just making a “G.I. Jane” joke — and Smith yelled back at him a second time.
Ticket resale site TickPick said Monday it sold "more tickets to see Chris Rock overnight than we did in the past month combined" after the comedian was slapped by Will Smith during the 94th Academy Awards.
