With 2 Yelp citations under its belt—Top 100 Brunch Spots 2023 and Top 100 Midwest Restaurants 2023—Blue Door is the Akron-area brunch spot to beat. Owned and operated by US Marine veteran Michael Bruno, the fast-casual cafe flaunts a chef-driven brunch showcasing scratch-made European breads and pastries, incorporated into the Chicken Pot Pie Croissant Bowl, Bananas Foster French Toast, and Biscuits and Gravy Breakfast Burger Smash. Fan favorites include fresh-baked English muffins and “giant croissants right out of the oven.” The newest addition: Fried Chicken, Bourbon, and Biscuits (featuring a bourbon-and-strawberry compote), a combo dish that “sells like crazy,” according to Michael.
“We bake everything from scratch daily,” says Michael, who honed his cooking chops in college and the military. “I grew up in a German household and was used to very good food,” he says. Blue Door also smokes its own salmon; makes its own breakfast sausage; and hand-cuts, brines, and bakes potato chips. Since opening in 2011, it has landed multiple statewide recognitions. Brunch is so popular, it’s now served 6 days a week.
