'Practical Magic' Sequel Is Officially in the Works

Dust off your spell books, a Practical Magic sequel is officially in the works!

On Monday, Warner Bros. confirmed a sequel to the beloved 1998 film -- which stars Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman as sisters Sally and Gillian Owens, who are descended from a long line of witches and must fight against a family curse in order to find love.

A TikTok shared to the official Warner Bros. account thrilled fans by including the film's iconic "Lime in the Coconut" scene, with text reading, "Me & the girls finding out that Practical Magic 2 is happening."

"It's official ... Practical Magic 2 is coming!" the studio captioned the TikTok.

ET can confirm deals are in process for Bullock and Kidman to return for the sequel, with both actresses also expected to produce. Akiva Goldsman (The Dark Tower, I Am Legend) is set to write the screenplay.

The original film is based on the 1995 novel of the same name by Alice Hoffman. In the years since Practical Magic'srelease, the author has published three more novels about the Owens family --  and shared in a 2021 interview that the producer of the original film also owns the rights to books 2 and 3 in the series: The Rules of Magic (2017) and Magic Lessons (2020).

Both books are prequel novels, however, 2021's The Book of Magic is a sequel to Practical Magic.

"It was a really long time and I never thought of doing it," Hoffman said in the same interview about writing a sequel. "But I got mail from readers saying that they wanted to have a sequel, that they wanted to know what happened to the characters."
