CLEVELAND — One of Cleveland's all-time greats is giving back to the community this weekend, as legendary Indians pitcher CC Sabathia will host a youth baseball camp on Sunday at Luke Easter Park.
The event, sponsored by Guardians co-owner Matt Kaulig's nonprofit Kaulig Giving, will take place at the ballfield that bears Sabathia's name. The ProCamp is part of Sabathia's PitCCh In Foundation, and he and coaches from around the area will be there to give kids a hands-on experience learning the game.
"Returning to Cleveland fills me with excitement and nostalgia," Sabathia said in a statement. "Playing there for eight seasons, it became our second home where we started our family. The bonds we formed with fans and friends are truly cherished. Now, coming back to give back to the community alongside ProCamps and Kaulig Giving means the world to me. Connecting with the younger generation of players and hosting a clinic here in Cleveland, on the CC Sabathia field, is an experience that will undoubtedly create lasting memories."
Sabathia pitched for the Tribe from 2001-08, posting a 106-71 record and a 3.83 ERA during that span while winning the 2007 American League Cy Young Award. With 251 victories and 3,093 strikeouts across a 19-year MLB career, the World Series champion and six-time All-Star is considered a prime candidate to one day be elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame.
Sunday's camp is free and open to select community organizations in the Greater Cleveland area, and those interested can register here. All attendees will receive:
- a souvenir autograph from CC Sabathia (item provided — outside items not permitted)
- a camp team photo with CC Sabathia
- a limited-edition CC Sabathia Baseball ProCamp t-shirt
