CLEVELAND — Lights, Camera, Action!
Universal Studios is in town for the next couple months filming a new movie. It’s called Shooting Stars: a biopic based on the 2009 autobiography of LeBron James, telling the story of his childhood and the Fab 5 that stole the hearts of many on the basketball court.
Filming started on Monday in Beachwood and there’s still a chance for you to make a cameo appearance as an extra. The production will need about 6,000 extras in the coming months and many of them could come from right here in northeast Ohio.
“People in Cleveland can get involved. People in Akron can get involved,” said Angela Boehm, owner and Founder of Angela Boehm Casting charged with finding the people needed to fill roles. “A lot of it we want to stay very true to LeBron’s story. So filming in that area and using Akron locals is so great for us because it’s real. And that’s what we want is truth and to tell real stories.”
Boehm has been posting casting calls to Facebook and says they are continuing to vet hundreds of applicants to fill various roles.
“We are looking to create the atmosphere of what his story looked like. Cheerleaders, band members stadium fans, librarians, cafeteria workers, all of it,” said Boehm.
Applicants must be age 14 and up, and you must be fully vaccinated and boosted. Those who are chosen will make at least $88 dollars per day, but could make more depending on how much time they put in.
Boehm says in the past, roles would be cast by people from outside the region. But casting locally helps make the film authentic. She also says the applicants in the region have continued to improve their resumes over the years.
“We have been able to cast so many people locally here because people are starting to learn,” said Boehm, who has casted for other films like Judas and the Black Messiah, and Cherry.
“Cleveland is really getting groomed. And it’s really cool to see.”
