CLEVELAND โ Westlake native and YouTube influencer Jake "The Problem Child" Paul announced Monday he will take on Tyron "The Chosen One" Woodley in the main event of a professional boxing event at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in August.
Paul and Woodley are the headliners in the event, which will take place on Sunday, August 29. The event will be broadcast live on Showtime PPV.
On Thursday, both men will appear at a press conference from Los Angeles to preview the fight. That press conference will be streamed live on the Showtime Sports YouTube channel, and Jake Paul's YouTube channel.
Paul has been dabbling in boxing for the past year and a half. He looks to up the caliber of competition against Woodley, who is also a decorated mixed martial arts champion and striking specialist. Woodley held the UFC title from 2016 to 2019.
Also squaring off at the event will be Puerto Rican star and WBC/WBO Featherweight World Champion Amanda "The Real Deal" Serrano, who will defend her titles against super bantamweight world champion Yamileth Mercado.
โI grew up going to Cavs, Browns and Indians games on the weekends, dreaming as a little kid of one day being in a position to put on a show for my hometown like they did,โ said Paul. โOn August 29, that dream comes true. My biggest challenge to date, in front of the city that made me, on pay per view for the world to see me knockout a UFC champion. Iโm also thrilled to have Amanda Serrano on this card. She stands out as the most prolific KO artist in womenโs boxing. What a night this is going to be!โ
Woodley (19-7-1 MMA record) has a celebrated career in combat sports. He won the UFC championship in July 2016, defeating Robbie Lawler in the first round. Woodley then went on to defend his title successfully four times. Before competing in the UFC, Woodley fought in the Strikeforce MMA promotion on SHOWTIME and compiled an 8-1 record from 2009 through 2012. Woodley earned 14 of his 19 wins by way of TKO or submission.
"I don't play games with kids," Woodley said. "They brought me in to take out the trash. You're welcome!"
