'Minister of Culture' Michael Heaton previews opening night of Cleveland International Film Festival

The festival begins Wednesday night with a screening of the film "The Etruscan Smile"

The opening night of the 43rd annual Cleveland International Film Festival will take place Wednesday night, Mar. 27, with a screening of the film The Etruscan Smile in the Connor Palace at Playhouse Square.

The doors open at 6 p.m. and guests are asked arrive no later than 6:40. The film begins at 7. Brief remarks will be made prior to the film, and the screening will be followed by a Q & A with special guests from the film.

The movie, directed by Mihal Brezis and Oded Binnum, stars Brian Cox as Scottish Rory MacNeil. a stubborn man with a taste for whiskey, cigarettes, and doing what he pleases. Medical issues force him to leave home and travel to San Francisco for treatment. While there, he connects with his estranged son Ian, who he hasn’t seen in 15 years. Their many life-long conflicts surface and they have to find a way to forgive and accept each other.

The opening night reception following the film will be at the KeyBank State Theatre. Doors will open at 8:45, and the reception begins at 9 and ends at 11. Free wine, beer, and snacks will be available, along with a cash bar.
