CLEVELAND -- New life is coming to the West Bank of the Flats in Cleveland.
The Music Box Supper Club, a new concert venue and restaurant at 1148 Main Avenue, will feature two stage areas for live concert performances with restaurant-style seating.
The Music Box is taking over the building that was formally the disco-style Club Coconuts that closed in the early 90's.
"What they didn't know is, when they built the disco, they built a perfect concert hall too. All the sound engineering is there for a concert hall," said Mike Miller, co-owner of The Music Box Supper Club.
Miller was born and raised in Cleveland, then moved to Chicago. He and his wife, Colleen, moved back about four years ago with the dream of opening a music venue close to the heart of downtown Cleveland.
The Music Box will feature a listen room upstairs with seating for 300 people and a concert space and dance floor downstairs that can seat up to 250 people, as well as iconic views of downtown.
The Millers feel this will be a great success.
"One of the things, coming back to Cleveland, I got reminded of is how much Clevelanders love live music. Not only rock and roll but they love their orchestra, they just love music. And we think bringing them something like this, centrally located, downtown Cleveland, right on the river, is really something they are going to love long-term," said Mike Miller.
The restaurant is scheduled to have a soft opening in August with the concert series starting in September.
