‘Howley Family Student Center’: Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announces plans for $6 million gift

This center is described as the first space in the museum’s history uniquely designed for the thousands of K-12 students who visit the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

CLEVELAND — As the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland prepares for their upcoming museum expansion, the organization has announced they’ve received a $6 million donation from Nick and Lorie Howley to “support the renovation and build-out of the new state-of-the-art ‘Howley Family Student Center.’”

This new center is described as the first space in the museum’s history uniquely designed for the thousands of K-12 students who visit the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame each year.

“The gift is the first in a series of major gifts that will be announced leading up to the museum’s expansion and renovation groundbreaking event this fall,” according to a press release from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

The funds will also be used to create the “Howley Rockers Program,” which will provide free on-site and online education programs led by Rock Hall educators at private and parochial schools nationwide.

“Nick Howley has served as a member of the Board of Trustees at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame since May of 2016, and is a member of the Education committee,” officials note.

3News previously reported the Rock Hall’s expansion, which is highlighted by a 50,000 square-foot addition on the west side of the building. Here’s what you can expect from the upgrades:

  • An additional 10,000 square feet for large-scale traveling exhibits
  • Multipurpose spaces for indoor performances, community gatherings and private rentals
  • Relocation of the administrative offices from the lower level
  • A new entrance lobby that will improve the flow of visitors
  • Open space for event & education programming
  • On-site archives for visitors to access the Rock Hall's unique collection

In addition, the project also creates a "museum campus" alongside the neighboring Great Lakes Science Center, with greenspace that will allow the public to engage with the lakefront.

The 2023 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony is set to take place at the Baclays Center in New York on Friday, Nov. 3. This year's class includes Kate Bush, Sheryl Crow, Missy Elliott, George Michael, Willie Nelson, Rage Against The Machine and The Spinners. You can see the full list of 2023 inductees HERE.
