Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction brings music lovers together

“Music has always been a safety net for all of us,” said Dena Loverde. “It’s an emotional attachment that none of us can quantify.”

CLEVELAND — They were all fans of music, chatting virtually during the pandemic. This week, they met in a large group for the first time — at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

“Music has always been a safety net for all of us,” said Dena Loverde. “It’s an emotional attachment that none of us can quantify.”

Music has become a big part of Loverde’s life -- especially during the pandemic. She connected with a group of fans of the XM Sirius Volume channel.

“I call it music, ‘Nerd-vana,’” said Loverde. “We get to talk about [music] all the time.”

The conversations moved from Twitter to Zoom meetings where the group of about 50 quickly became virtual friends. But they didn’t get a chance to meet up in a big group, face-to-face, until this week for the induction ceremony.

“It’s like a high school reunion and the world’s largest online date,” said group member Laura Bennett.

About 20 members from all over the country finally connected around a table inside the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Music brought them together, but it also created a bond unlike any other.

“It feels like we’re meeting friends we’ve had for decades,” said Loverde.
