CLEVELAND — The spirit of rock and roll is in the air in Cleveland!
The quiet downtown will fade away as the days close to the 2021 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony.
You can feel it, it's back: The riffs of music legends, echoing through the city.
“You're always living and breathing rock n' roll in Cleveland,” CLE Rocks Podcast Host and Plain Dealer journalist, Troy Smith said.
Big wheels will keep on turning again this year for rock n’ roll after a year without all the excitement.
“It’s a big deal, especially for people who haven't got out to concerts yet. It's just sort of putting an exclamation point on sort of this resurgence from COVID,” Smith said.
Rooms are filling for events celebrating the inductees.
“You have three women going in, which has never been before,” Managing Editor for Ultimate Classic Rock, Michael Gallucci said.
13 inductees will find their place in the hall of fame, including the Foo Fighters, Jay-Z, The Go Go's, Carole King, and Tina Turner.
The Music Box Supper Club dedicated Wednesday evening solely to Turner's legacy.
“Tina Turner was one of the biggest and the best,” said photographer Janet Macoska.
It’s likely many photos we reference of Turner in the story above were taken by Macoska, who was there each step of the way as Turner rose to her solo superstardom.
“She commands the stage and lights everybody up,” Macoska said. “I come to a show and I have a job to do but the fan inside me is always smiling.”
Big-name superstars are also coming to Cleveland for the event, names like Paul McCartney and Taylor Swift.
“It’s global so people around the world know it,” Smith said.
The induction will stream on HBO platforms down the road, but, this weekend, all the fun is live in Cleveland.
“Our love of rock and roll is in our DNA," Macoska said.
