CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Orchestra announced Sunday that its 2024-25 season, the orchestra's 107th season and 23rd under its music director Franz Welser-Möst, will begin on Sept. 19.
The new season features 11 guest artists making their TCO debuts, two world premiere performances, two U.S. premieres and 12 works that will be performed for the first time in Cleveland.
“Each new season with The Cleveland Orchestra is a chance for us to take our wonderful Cleveland audience on a creative journey as we perform old and new repertoire, elevate new voices, and balance beloved classics, hidden gems, and thrilling premieres,” Welser-Möst said.
The Cleveland Orchestra will welcome a host of high-profile guest conductors including San Francisco Symphony Music Director Esa-Pekka Salonen, Daniel Hardin, Klaus Mäkelä, Elim Chan and former New York Philharmonic conductor Alan Gilbert.
Violinists Augustin Hadelich and Hilary Hahn highlight the list of soloists returning to Cleveland, along with pianists Emanuel Ax, Yefim Bronfman and Marc-André Hamelin, among others. Also featured is saxophonist Steven Banks, a former professor at the Baldwin Wallace Conservatory of Music.
The season begins on Thursday, Sept. 19, with a program featuring Sergei Prokofiev's Symphony No. 1, "Classical" Robert Schumann's Violin Concerto, and Pytor Ilyich Tchaikovsky's "Pathétique" symphony.
In November, the orchestra will present all five of Ludwig van Beethoven's piano concertos with pianist Russian-German Igor Levit.
English composer Thomas Adès will visit Cleveland on Feb. 20 and 22, 2025, to conduct a new version of his piece "America: A Prophecy."
"Our new season showcases a unique mix of renowned artists and rising stars who will join the Orchestra over the course of nine months in performances of familiar masterpieces and exciting new works," President and CEO André Gremillet said. "We cannot wait for you to experience this brilliant and enriching music and look forward to creating more lasting memories together at Severance Music Center."
