In its 20th season, NBC's The Voice is still in search of talented artists across the nation. And it just so happens that Ohio has a lot of talented artists.
During Tuesday's Blind auditions, 23-year-old Connor Christian of Gallipolis, Ohio, performed in front of judges Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, Nick Jonas and Blake Shelton.
With his rendition of Gary Clark Jr.'s Bright Lights, Christian garnered not one, but three red chair turns. Despite jamming out with an air-guitar during the performance, fellow Ohio native John Legend was the only judge not to turn.
Roughly halfway through the song, Blake Shelton was the first to turn, followed by two last-minute reactions from both Kelly and Nick.
"We have people that come up here and sing rock, then we have people who come up here and just work, and that's what you just did," said Shelton after Christian's performance.
After hearing pitches from his three coaching options, Christian selected Blake to be his coach. As the first selection of the fourth episode, Blake promoted his new team member in a tweet saying, "Team Blake coming in hot right out the gate."
Prior to the audition, The Voice took us down memory lane with a look at Christian's journey with music from his childhood to present day.
"Every since I was a little kid, I've always just had a guitar in my hand," said Christian. "There's little videos of me hand banging, I remember one where I had this jean jacket...I made my mom cut out the sleeves, it was like rock and roll," he recalled.
Sharing a love for music with his dad, Christian says he grew up around some of the "best, most authentic artists." But they also shared another passion, tennis. Ranking among the top 20 in the state during his high school and college years, Christian dreamt of going pro, but when that didn't pan out, he decided to coach instead, because it allowed him the time to continue pursuing music.
