Shaker Heights ballet company back home after performing in Cuba

The "Verb Ballets" company just returned from Havana, Cuba after a special performance of "Romeo and Juliet."

SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio — A local ballet company is just getting back home from the performance of a lifetime.

The "Verb Ballets" company is based in Shaker Heights and they just returned from Havana, Cuba after a special performance of "Romeo and Juliet."

This is the second full length production the "Verb Ballets" and a Cuban Ballet company have collaborated on in Cuba.

The companies have been working together for the past four years and it's still one of the few exchanges that takes place between both Cuba and the U.S. after newly imposed sanctions went into effect a few years ago.

"You know, the world is very divided right now. So to show that we can you know, put a production together and really, you know, despite not sharing the same language we can still you know, present something together," dancer Lieneke Matte says.

"We're learning from them and they're learning from us and putting aside our language and cultural barriers the fact that were able to come together and create something so beautiful and emotionally cathartic for audiences here is I mean, it's just like I'm so grateful to be part of that," dancer Daniel Cho adds.

The Verb Ballets performed in Havana last weekend and they will be giving two return performances on Friday, March 13th at 7 p.m. at their center for dance facility in Shaker Heights.

The other performance is set for Sunday March 15th, at 2 p.m. at the Akron-Summit County Public Library Auditorium.

Tickets for both shows are still available. Click here for information.
