BAY VILLAGE, Ohio — One of Northeast Ohio's biggest unsolved crimes is making national programming.
The murder case of Amy Mihaljevic will be featured on an Investigation Discovery series, set to premiere Dec. 30 at 9 p.m.
The series, called "The Lake Erie Murders" examines crime in the Lake Erie region. The three-hour special featuring Mihaljevic will air as part of the premiere, called "The Lake Erie Murders: Who Killed Amy Mihaljevic?"
After that, the series will continue with weekly hour-long episodes taking a look at four other murder mysteries. One of those cases is the murder of Gloria Pointer, a teen who was raped and killed in a Cleveland alley. That episode airs Jan. 13 at 10 p.m.
Mihaljevic was 10 years old when she disappeared from a Bay Village shopping center in 1989. Less than four months later, her body was found in an Ashland County field.
Her killer has never been found. She would have been 40 years old this month.
Retired FBI Agent Phil Torsney was hired to work the case in 2013. Torsney's resume includes helping track Whitey Bulger, the famous Bostonian crime boss who died in prison this year.
