Dr. Heather Gornik – Go Red For Women All Year Long

Dr. Gornik talks about Fibromuscular Dysplasia and how important it is to treat it.

All of February, WKYC celebrated American Heart Month & the Go Red for Women Campaign by sharing information that can help each of us improve our heart health.  This is such an important topic that we are continuing the conversation throughout the year! Many of us know the signs of a heart attack, but sometime cardiac concerns reveal other health issues that we need to be aware of and luckily, that is where Dr. Heather Gornik, CO-Director of the Vascular Center at University Hospitals Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute, comes in! She recently joined Hollie and Alexa to talk about Fibromuscular Dysplasia, a condition that can lead to heart problems.

Here are the questions Hollie & Alexa asked:
What is F.M.D.?

Does having F.M.D. increase the risk for heart problems?

There are those in our community that have F.M.D. and have, subsequently, also suffered a spontaneous coronary artery dissection and or heart attack. How are these heath scares connected?

Who does F.M.D. affect and how can we lower our risk?

Why is it important to diagnose F.M.D. and how do we treat it?

What are we learning from research being done related to F.M.D. and women’s heart health?
