LONDON, UK — Peppa Pig has undoubtedly had an influence on children in recent years.
The popular British cartoon character, as seen on Nick Jr., recently had parents believing their children were picking up British accents from the show.
Now, the London Fire Brigade has called out the show for a sexist slip-up.
In an episode of the show called "The Fire Engine," Peppa's mother can be seen dressed as a firefighter in the first scene. Meanwhile, the narrator says, "Mummy Pig is dressed as a fireman."
The episode caught the attention of The London Fire Brigade, which turned to Twitter to call the show out.
"Come on @peppapig, we’ve not been firemen for 30 years. You have a huge influence on kids & using out of date stereotypical gender specific wording prevents young girls from becoming firefighters. Join our #Firefightingsexism campaign," the official London Fire Brigade Twitter account posted Sunday.
The London Fire Brigade's Twitter account has actively promoted careers for women, posting tweets about the Barbie firefighter doll the same day.
